If you’re having trouble with Far Cry 6 performance on PC, this could be why.

There has been criticism around Far Cry 6, as there has been with nearly every major AAA launch in the previous few years. While the console versions of the game haven’t generated too much controversy, the PC version has apparently seen a number of performance difficulties that cause the frame rate to dip even when running on rather powerful hardware.

It’s odd that a Reddit user seems to have identified the one that worked best for them out of all the available remedies for the performance issue. According to Reddit user u/contrabardus and many others who appear to agree, the performance drop was caused by Ubisoft’s own overlay.

By disabling the Ubisoft Connect overlay, the user was able to boost their framerate quite significantly.

The Ubisoft Connect overlay could be interfering with Far Cry’s performance on PC.

The user reported frame rate fluctuations from as low as 48 FPS with the overlay enabled to as high as 70 FPS with maximum graphics settings and the frame limiter switched off. According to Contrabardus, the following hardware specifications were used to run the game:

CPU: Ryzen 3950x

GPU: Nvidia 3080Ti

Memory: 36GB RAM

The Ubisoft Connect overlay can be disabled on your PC in the following ways, but keep in mind that doing so will prevent you from using all of Ubisoft Connect’s features, including multiplayer and cooperative play:

  1. Run Ubisoft Connect with the “.exe” file
  2. To adjust preferences, click the gear icon in the upper right corner.
  3. For best results, disable the in-game overlay by deselecting the “Enable-In-Game Overlay” box in the “General” section.

This will disable the Ubisoft Connect overlay, which may aid PC players experiencing performance issues with Far Cry 6. While a fix from Ubisoft is expected within the next few weeks, this appears to be the best option for PC players of Far Cry 6 in the interim.
